Wanda Mooney was raised in Charlemont, MA. Her parents, Larry and Connie Burrington, owned and operated a successful motel and restaurant business on the Mohawk Trail, which they sold in 1978. Growing up and working in a family-owned business alongside her siblings helped Wanda develop a strong work ethic and an entrepreneurial spirit. There is no doubt that Wanda's successful career is a direct result of her upbringing in the hospitality industry, where she was taught the value of hard work and putting customers first.
Growing up, Wanda was fortunate to have horses, which she cared for with great dedication. Her parents encouraged her passion by ensuring she attended weekly competitions, deepening her love for western riding and Gymkhana events. Her hard work and competitive nature led to many championship awards, including the New England Reserve Championship Gymkhana Award from the New England Pinto Horse Association when she was just 10 years old.
In 1985, Wanda married local contractor John Mooney. At the age of 20, they began their journey together by building a log home on 60 acres of land that had been in Wanda's family for generations. They completed all the work themselves, turning it into a labor of love for over 40 years. This hands-on experience gave Wanda valuable insight into construction and the challenges people face when building or renovating a home. It was a life-changing experience that ultimately inspired her to become a real estate agent.
In 1993, Wanda began her real estate career. With her deep understanding of the importance of homeownership and her positive, enthusiastic personality, she quickly became a natural at selling real estate. Wanda recognized early on that everyone should have the opportunity to own a home, as it can be a life-changing experience and, for many, their largest investment. Both buyers and sellers rely on her expertise to navigate what can often be a challenging and stressful process.
Home is everything to Wanda. She loves tending to her gardens and managing the woods alongside her husband John and their beloved Beagle, Lucy. Wanda also enjoys antiquing, decorating, and supporting local artists, where she displays their work throughout her home.
Wanda previously served on the Board of Directors for both the United Way of Franklin County and the Greater Shelburne Falls Area Business Association. Today, she actively promotes local businesses and non-profits through her blog post series, encouraging people to shop locally and support charitable organizations.
