In a region where “cat café” is a fresh concept, Camelot Cat Cafe has opened its doors in Greenfield as the first of its kind in Western Massachusetts. Located at 305 Wells Street, this café offers more than just coffee—it offers company, comfort, and a chance to connect with animals in a gentle, welcoming setting.
A Thoughtful Beginning
The idea of Camelot Cat Cafe began with owner Kelley Goddard and building owner Cameron Ward, who together navigated zoning, health, and regulatory matters to make the café possible. In June 2025, the Greenfield Zoning Board of Appeals granted a special permit, allowing the project to move forward.
An interesting feature of the permitting process was Ward’s proposal for a quarantine room. This quieter, separate space is intended for cats who are sick, stressed, or otherwise needing separation, a plan that the Board supported. Such care in design shows the intention to balance guest experience with animal welfare.
What It Offers
Camelot Cat Cafe is about calm, connection, and choices:
-
The café space is about 800 square feet, outfitted with climbing furniture and a variety of cat-friendly toys.
-
Current feline residents are rescues or sanctuary cats—some permanent, others awaiting adoption once partnerships are fully in place.
-
At present, it operates on an appointment-only basis (Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays), with hopes to introduce walk-in availability in the future under manageable conditions.
-
The cost is $10 for 15 minutes or 40-minute time slots for $20 per person in the cat room. Visitors can also enjoy pre-packaged snacks, beverages, and shop cat-themed items and crafts from local businesses.
Why It Matters Locally
For residents of Western Massachusetts, Camelot Cat Cafe fills a gap in local offerings. It is more than a novelty—it’s a place for people who love cats but may not be able to keep one at home or those who want a calm, pleasant space to unwind, work, or simply enjoy quiet time. The café supports animal welfare, through rescue-based models and future adoption partnerships.
Also, the café brings positive foot traffic to the Wells Street area and contributes to community vibrancy. For those looking to move into Greenfield or already living here, it’s another marker of what local culture has to offer.
Things to Know Before Visiting
-
Appointments are required for now. To schedule, visitors can call or text 413-824-1118.
-
Only cash or checks are being accepted at present.
-
Adoption of cats will be possible once certain partnerships are finalized; until then, some of the resident cats are not up for adoption.
Looking Ahead
Camelot Cat Cafe is still in an early phase. Key future developments include offering walk-in hours, expanding adoption options, and solidifying partnerships with rescue organizations. If everything goes smoothly, the café could evolve into a more flexible gathering spot with broader appeal.
A Community-Oriented Addition
Camelot Cat Cafe represents a meaningful addition to Greenfield’s local landscape: it’s a business built with care—for both community and animals. For prospective homebuyers, newcomers, or long-time residents, its presence signals a town that values unique, relationship-oriented ventures. It’s more than just a place for cat lovers—it’s a place that reflects the character and heart of the region.
