One of the draws of Shelburne Falls is the rich artistic community within the village. Walking down the streets of the village center, you’ll find many galleries, artists’ shops, crafts stores, and other unique places for creating and buying art.
Salmon Falls Gallery on Ashfield Street brings together the works of many artists from around the region into one central location. There, you could spend a while browsing different pieces of art and even return every so often and find a new featured artist or exhibit. Below are some exciting exhibits and workshops coming up at the gallery!
Events, Workshops, Exhibits, and More!
Salmon Falls Gallery has an exciting series of events, workshops, exhibits, and featured artists planned for the rest of the 2021 summer season. From July 2 to August 29, the gallery will exhibit the photography of Jim Gambaro and Rhea Banker.
Jim’s exhibit, called Painting with De-Light spans a dozen years of work into abstract exploration. Jim says he has “always looked for subjects and lighting that stimulate the child's ‘wow’ factor in my mind's eye, zeroing in on details small and large, on landscapes both natural and constructed, and on places far and close to home.”
Examples of his work are pictured right, White Rock Red Rock Soft and below, Times Square in Softly Harder Reds.

Rhea’s exhibit, Divergence: Shaping the Land, explores the river beds of New England. Rhea’s images reflect her “impressions of the energy released at the meeting places of rocks and rivers, where a vulnerable Earth charts every course and every next step”. Below are some examples of her work. You can also view her virtual exhibit on the Salmon Falls Gallery website here.
Fine Art Soft Pastels with Rebecca Clark
Salmon Falls also has some exciting workshops coming up. On Sunday, August 22, Rebecca Clark will be hosting a Fine Art Soft Pastels Workshop from 2 to 4 pm. Whether you have no art experience or are an experienced artist, there will be something for you to take away from this workshop.
Participants will be experimenting with pastels through drawing exercises, creating shadow and light, and finally creating a still life. All of the supplies are provided and there will be opportunities to take art home.
The investment for this workshop is $40 and you can sign up here on Salmon Falls Gallery’s website. If you are unable to attend the workshop on August 22, don’t worry because Rebecca will host two more on September 19 and October 17.
Spirit Doll Making Workshop with Belinda Lyons Zucker
Make your own Spirit Doll with Belinda Lyons Zucker. At the end of this hands-on workshop, you'll take home your own spirit doll, embellished with beads, embroidery, words, and fabric. All the materials are provided. However you are welcome to bring anything else from home which you wish to add to your doll.
The workshop will last 2 hours from 2 to 4 pm on Saturday, September 11, 2021 and again on Saturday, October 9 at the same time.
Belinda herself has created over 400 dolls since 1988 for various galleries and by commission. She says "“It was not until I discovered the art of doll making that I found my voice; discovery of my soul's foundation. I am pulled to articulate the human figure as a spirit rather than rendering an anatomically correct doll."
The cost for this workshop is $60. Sign up here.
