Visit the Village of Shelburne Falls this weekend and watch the Bridge of Flowers Annual Road Race. This Saturday, August 13th, 2022, you can support the runners as they take on what is considered one of the most challenging road races in New England.
The Bridge of Flowers Race is an 8K race which starts and ends in the beautiful village of Shelburne Falls and meanders through town, across the Deerfield River, and along scenic routes. There is also a 3K Charity Race through the village’s historic center. Proceeds from the 3K Walk/Run benefit DIAL/SELF Youth & Community Services, a non-profit agency which serves local youth and communities and provides services which foster youth empowerment and community service.
The Bridge of Flowers Race started over 40 years ago by Mike McCusker. Although the race has undergone many changes over the years, it continues to be a community event which so many people look forward to each year. New this year, in honor of Mike McCusker, the race organizers have added the McCusker split. Crittenden Hill has always been the biggest challenge of this race, and this year runners will be able to track their time from the bottom to the top of this uphill mile.
On Friday night, have dinner with the runners and support the Buckland-Shelburne Elementary School PTO at the Spaghettifest dinner. Dinner is $5.00 per person or $20.00 per family.
The 3K Walk/Run starts at 8 am and the 8K Road Race starts at 9 am on the Iron Bridge. After the race, attend the post-race party at Buckland-Shelburne Elementary School for the awards ceremony and live music.
