Registration for the Berkshire Highlands Pentathlon is open which means it’s time to gather your team together. This annual event hosted by Berkshire East is really unique in that it is only possible in New England’s early springtime when you can run, bike, kayak, and ski all in the same day!
The 2023 pentathlon is happening on Saturday, April 1 in Charlemont, Massachusetts. Starting at Berkshire East, teams will compete in 5 relay events. The first is a 4.3 mile run, followed by a 18 mile bike ride on paved roads. The biker then hands off to a paddler who paddles just under 2 miles of the Deerfield River, first going up river, then turning and heading back down river. The next team member runs 1.75 miles back to Berkshire East where they complete an obstacle course and finally hands off to the last competitor who climbs or skins up to the top of the run and then switches to a ski or snowboard to ride down to the finish line.
Teams of up to five people are welcome to compete so get your friends or family together to create your team. Otherwise, you can be a “braveheart” and do all five events solo. There are also age groups for teams whose members are all over 50, or all over 70, and a separate category for teams which are all family members.
Register your team here by March 12th to receive a discounted rate. Go here for more information about the Berkshire Highlands Pentathlon.
