Each month I will be highlighting one of our local non-profit organizations to share information about the resources available in our community and ways to volunteer and get involved with these organizations. This month’s featured local non-profit is The Food Bank of Western Massachusetts. For over 40 years, this organization has been providing food to those in need and leading the effort to end hunger in our community.
The Food Bank of Western Massachusetts works across four counties - Berkshire, Franklin, Hampden, and Hampshire - to provide food to community members in need. Through its independent pantries, meal sites, and shelters, they have provided emergency food assistance and sustenance to families, seniors, children, people with disabilities, and veterans. The Food Bank also tackles long-term plans to resolve underlying causes of hunger in the community.
There are many volunteer opportunities with The Food Bank of Western Massachusetts. By volunteering, you can support their daily operation or help make a large event or fundraiser successful.
You can also be a part of their events through participation. There are several fun community events throughout the year which raise money for The Food Bank. The next one is coming up this Saturday, March 4th. Check out the 30th Annual WAMDA (Western Area Massachusetts Dietetic Association) Live & Virtual 5K Run/Walk. This year’s event will include live music and food trucks! If you can’t attend this event, be sure to check out all the other exciting events happening this year to support The Food Bank of Western Massachusetts.
