The Raven Bookstore has moved from Harvard Square in Cambridge to our very own Shelburne Falls in Franklin County, Massachusetts. The used book store opened on Friday, July 7th at the old mill building at 49 Conway Street on the Buckland side of Shelburne Falls. The shelves have been stocked with about 18,000 carefully selected titles, which came out of a storage of about 85,000 books. Plus, as the Cambridge location closes, even more books will migrate to Shelburne Falls.
John Petrovato, owner of The Raven, made the choice to transplant the store due to his desire for slower-paced bookselling. Petrovato lives in Wilmingtown, VT, although he had lived in Conway, MA in the past and is very familiar with Franklin County. He eyed the new space in the mill for its beauty and unique view of the Shelburne Falls Potholes. Plus, the high brick walls means plenty of space for expansion.
Looking ahead, Retrovato plans to add a cafe and host book readings and live music sessions. The regular hours will be 11 am to 6 pm.
