Once a year on a hot day in August, hundreds of racers fill the streets of the village of Shelburne Falls to compete in one of New England's toughest road races. The Bridge of Flowers Classic started as a modest road race in 1979. Today the race attracts competitors from near and far for its scenic course and the infamous Crittenden Hill.
This year's race is on Saturday, August 12th, 2023, so there's still time to register! Registration is only available online and will close on August 9th. You can sign up for either the 3K which starts at 8 am or the 8K Classic which starts at 9 am. Both races start and end on Bridge Street in Shelburne Falls, crossing the historic Iron Bridge, with views on the Deerfield River and the Bridge of Flowers.
Much of the proceeds will benefit DIAL/SELF Youth and Community Services, whose programs help boost young people and connect them with housing, income, education, and civic opportunities.
After the race, everyone is invited to the Post Race Awards Party, hosted by the Blue Rock Restaurant. Race finishers will receive a free ice cream from Mo's Fudge Factor, or for those over 21, a free beer by Floodwater Brewery at the Blue Rock. The party will include the awards ceremony, a raffle for local gift cards, and new this year, music from DJ Bobby C.
