Outdoor enthusiasts are in for a treat with the upcoming guided hike to the High Ledges, scheduled for Saturday, September 10, 2024. This experience promises breathtaking views and an opportunity to connect with nature, making it a perfect outing for individuals and families alike.
Led by experienced hiker Jim Perry, participants will have the chance to explore the stunning landscapes of the High Ledges. The upcoming guided hike offers a moderately challenging 1.4-mile round trip experience, culminating in a breathtaking vista of the Deerfield River Valley from atop a cliff ledge. Along the way, the guide will offer insights into the local flora and fauna while allowing hikers to enjoy the tranquility of the great outdoors.
Throughout the hike, there will be ample opportunities for rest and discussion, ensuring an engaging and educational experience for all participants.
What to Expect
- A journey lasting approximately 2.5 hours, including travel time
- Informative discussions on local history and wildlife
- Introduction to alternative trails, including an easier route to the Shelburne Fire Tower, a newly established Audubon trail on recently acquired land
What to Bring
To ensure a comfortable and enjoyable experience, participants are encouraged to bring:
- Comfortable hiking shoes or walking sneakers
- Water and snacks
- Sunscreen and a hat
- Tick repellent or treatment
- A camera to capture the beautiful scenery

Meeting Points
Hikers have two options for joining the group:
1. Arm's Library, Shelburne Falls: The primary meeting point. From here, participants can:
- Carpool to the trailhead (6.4 miles, 12-minute drive)
- Drive individually
2. Audubon's Trailhead Parking: Located off Patten Road, for those preferring to meet directly at the hike's starting point
Note: Those choosing to carpool are advised to wear appropriate face coverings for COVID-19 precautions.
This guided hike is an excellent opportunity for individuals to immerse themselves in nature and meet fellow hiking enthusiasts. Whether one is a seasoned hiker or simply looking to enjoy a day outside, the hike to the High Ledges is an event not to be missed.
