Posada’s Tavern is a family-run restaurant that brings the vibrant flavors of El Salvador and Mexico to the heart of New England. This charming eatery is the brainchild of twin sisters Ingrid and Nancy Rivas, along with Ingrid's business partner Cristonfer Cruz.
The Story Behind Posada
The Rivas sisters, originally from El Salvador, grew up surrounded by the rich culinary traditions of their homeland. From a young age, they were taught the art of cooking by their mother and grandmothers, who instilled in them the importance of preparing food with love for family and friends.
In September 2020, amidst the challenges of the pandemic, Ingrid Rivas and Cristonfer Cruz took a leap of faith and opened Posada Grill in Shelburne, Massachusetts. They started small with a take-out menu, gradually expanding as restrictions ease, and eventually moving to Greenfield.
The Name
The restaurant's name, "Posada," holds special significance. It refers to a Mexican Christmas tradition where people go door-to-door, singing carols and reenacting Mary and Joseph's search for lodging. This celebration embodies hospitality and community spirit - values that Ingrid and Cruz aim to infuse into their restaurant.
A Family Affair
While Ingrid and Cruz run the kitchen, Nancy manages the front of the house, handling customer relations and personnel. The restaurant truly is a family affair, with even cousins pitching in as wait staff.
Menu Highlights
Posada Grill specializes in Salvadoran and Mexican cuisine, offering a delightful array of authentic dishes. Some standout menu items include:
Enchiladas Divorciadas: A unique dish featuring enchiladas topped with both ranchera sauce and salsa verde, separated by a line of flavored sour cream.
Fajita Platter: Nancy Rivas' personal favorite, described as "a really perfect meal".
House-made Salsa Verde: A tangy, flavorful sauce made with tomatillos, onions, and jalapeños.
Quality and Consistency
The co-owners and chefs have worked diligently to teach each other their favorite dishes, ensuring menu consistency regardless of who's in the kitchen. This commitment to quality has paid off, as the restaurant has flourished, recently adding a second dining room and obtaining a full liquor license.
Posada Grill isn't just a restaurant; it's a labor of love that brings the warmth and flavors of El Salvador to Massachusetts. With its dedication to authentic cuisine and welcoming atmosphere, it's no wonder this family-run establishment has quickly become a local favorite.
