On Saturday, May 17, 2025, Greenfield’s Court Square will come alive with the 15th Annual Greenfield Bee Fest. Hosted by the Franklin County Beekeepers Association in partnership with Second Congregational Church of Greenfield, this festival honors Reverend Lorenzo Langstroth, who is hailed as the “Father of Modern Beekeeping.”
What to Expect at Bee Fest 2025

Starting at 9 AM, the Second Congregational Church lawn and adjacent Court Square will buzz with kid-friendly activities, music, art, and educational displays. This year’s festivities coincide with the Greenfield Farmers Market, creating a rich, vibrant atmosphere for learning, shopping, and play.
Among the morning’s highlights:
-
Pollinators Parade: Don your best black-and-yellow outfit and march with the bees around the downtown common.
-
Bee Education Booths: Learn from local beekeepers about hive care, pollinator gardening, and how you can help save bees at home.
-
Seed and Seedling Giveaway: Plant your own pollinator-friendly garden with free materials.
-
Hands-on Art & Games for Kids: Crafts and activities to inspire the next generation of bee stewards.
Beatrice the Bee Gets Company
At noon, witness the unveiling of three new “Beatrice the Bee” sculptures, joining the six already installed downtown. These cheerful, colorful sculptures were conceived by local artist Rachael Katz, who combined 3D printing and traditional sculpture techniques to bring Beatrice to life. Each bee, painted by a local artist, represents the creativity and community spirit of Greenfield.
“Bees are a perfect metaphor for the kind of cooperative, creative energy that defines our town,” said Bee Fest co-chair and founder Sandy Thomas. “Beatrice is now a symbol of Greenfield’s industriousness and heart.”
Why Bees? Why Now?
More than just a fun day out, Greenfield Bee Fest has an urgent mission: to raise awareness of the critical role pollinators play in our food systems and ecosystems. Honeybees pollinate roughly one-third of the world’s food supply, yet their populations are in decline due to pesticide use, habitat loss, and climate change.
Since its inception in 2010—marking the church’s 200th anniversary—Bee Fest has worked to turn concern into action. From “Bee Space” garden awards recognizing pollinator-friendly efforts, to workshops and resources for aspiring beekeepers, the event inspires change on the ground, one flower bed or hive at a time.
