Notice Non-Profits: It Takes a Village

In Western Massachusetts, one organization is living up to its name in the most literal—and impactful—way. It Takes a Village (ITAV) is a women-led nonprofit that has transformed a simple act of kindness into a powerful movement, delivering support, dignity, and hope to thousands of families since 2009.

Rooted in Compassion, Grown by Community

Today, ITAV serves all four counties of Western Massachusetts, offering a lifeline to new and expecting families facing economic, emotional, or social hardship. Their unique approach centers on one vital belief: every family deserves a village.

In a region where rural isolation can compound the already intense experience of new parenthood, ITAV’s programs are a beacon of support—connecting families not only with essential resources but also with people who care.

Meeting Basic Needs, Creating Lasting Change

Over the past decade, ITAV has distributed more than $3 million worth of essential supplies and directly served nearly 24,000 people—all with a small but mighty team, an operating budget that squeezes every penny, and the support of 45 dedicated volunteers.

  • Home visits bring practical help and emotional support to isolated parents during the first year of their baby’s life.

  • The Village Closet in Huntington offers free baby and children's supplies, including clothing and diapers.

  • The Hilltown Diaper Bank is the only one of its kind in the area, serving families where nearly 50% can’t afford this basic necessity.

  • School-based free stores, caregiver support groups, early childhood enrichment, and workforce training extend their reach and impact.

Through these services, ITAV empowers families to move from crisis to stability—and in doing so, strengthens entire communities.

A Legacy of Love and Support

You can also amplify your impact through a planned gift via the Community Foundation of Western Massachusetts, ensuring that generations to come will benefit from the same welcoming community you helped to build.

“Together, We Are the Village”

In an increasingly disconnected world, It Takes a Village is a rare and radical reminder that connection is everything. By centering care, dignity, and community, this organization is not only changing lives—they’re shaping a more resilient and inclusive future for all of Western Massachusetts.
