This weekend, you can be a part of a 100-year-old Greenfield tradition. The Greenfield Winter Carnival Centennial Celebration is happening this Friday, February 4 through Sunday, February 6, 2022 with events all over Greenfield, Mass and even some events happening all month long!
In honor of the 100th anniversary of this local favorite event, there will be a celebratory torch lighting at 4 pm on Friday to mark the beginning of this year’s carnival. Also happening on Friday will be live ice carvings all day long, winter music by local performers, a parade of lights, fireworks show, and more!
Then on Saturday, more exciting events will continue, including the Glacier Hideaway outside Hawks & Reed, serving warm and hearty winter treats, games and obstacles at the Beacon Field Blast, a Fatbike group ride, and a cribbage tournament. In the evening, the Garden Cinemas will present The Man From Beyond starring Harry Houdini with accompanist Jeff Rapsis, and Hawks & Reed will host a Winter Ball in their ballroom with a 9-piece horn-heavy ensemble.
The winter fun continues Sunday with a bunch of wintry events at Beacon Field including a hockey match, community-wide tug of war, ice bowling, cardboard sled contest, and more. Be sure to stay until 3:45 pm for the awards ceremony and find out the winners of the Ice Carving, Parade of Lights, Cardboard Sled Race, Vintage Snowmobile Show, Cookie Bake-Off, Chili Cook-off, and Snow Sculpture Contest.
Don’t worry, the events continue after this weekend! The Greenfield Winter Carnival includes a lot of ongoing events, including a Virtual 4 Mile Sleigh Bell Run, a city-wide scavenger hunt for the golden carrots, Greenfield business window display contest, poetry walk, and more.
