If you’ve ever participated in Relay For Life of Franklin County, you know just how special it is. It’s not just about walking laps—it’s about showing up for loved ones, standing up to cancer, and creating a sense of hope, healing, and community. And this year, the event is getting a major refresh that organizers hope will make it more accessible, more fun, and more impactful than ever.
So, what’s changing?
The biggest shift is the format. Instead of the traditional overnight relay, this year’s event will take place as a one-day, 12-hour experience on Saturday, June 7, from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. at the Franklin County Fairgrounds in Greenfield, MA. It’s still the same powerful gathering, just condensed into a day that’s easier for families, teams, and individuals to commit to.
This update came in response to how community events have evolved in the post-COVID world. People are busier, and overnight events can be tough for many to participate in fully. By making Relay a daytime event, more people can show up and be a part of something meaningful—without needing to plan for an all-nighter.
New walking route, more ways to connect
Along with the new schedule, the relay will also use a different part of the fairgrounds. Instead of the traditional track, participants will walk along the newly paved roadways that wind through the fairgrounds. The goal? To keep teams closer together and make it easier to cheer one another on as they walk by. It’s all about creating a supportive, uplifting atmosphere where everyone feels part of a shared purpose.
More than just walking
With the new format comes new opportunities. There will be craft and food vendors set up throughout the day, giving the event a lively festival feel. And that’s just the beginning—organizers are working on a lineup of fun activities and entertainment to make the day even more memorable.
Why participate?
Relay For Life isn’t just another community event. It’s a chance to celebrate cancer survivors, remember those we’ve lost, and fight back against a disease that has touched so many lives. Every team that registers, every dollar raised, and every lap walked helps fund critical cancer research, support services for patients, transportation to treatment, and so much more through the American Cancer Society.
Whether you’ve done the relay before or are thinking about joining for the first time, now’s the time to sign up, start a team, or support someone who’s walking. You can register, donate, or learn more at the official event page: Relay For Life of Franklin County 2025
