Bikes Fight Cancer Charity Ride: Western Mass Rallies for a Cause

bikes fight cancerOn Saturday, June 14th, 2025, the roads and rolling farmland of Western Massachusetts will once again come alive with hundreds of cyclists united by a single mission: to fight cancer, one mile at a time. The Bikes Fight Cancer Charity Ride, now in its sixth year, is set to launch from the scenic grounds of Tree House Brewing in South Deerfield, and for 2025, the event has already reached full capacity—an inspiring testament to the community’s commitment and the event’s growing legacy.

A Ride Fueled by Heart and Hope

This year’s ride, powered by Valley Solar, offers two fully supported routes—25 and 50 miles—winding through the picturesque Pioneer Valley and along the Connecticut River. Riders will enjoy long straightaways flanked by lush farmland, rolling river views, and the camaraderie of a cause-driven peloton. For families, a free kids’ trail ride and fun activities on the Tree House property ensure everyone can join the day’s festivities.

But the heart of the event is its purpose: 100% of rider donations go directly to cancer research and to support local families facing the burden of a cancer diagnosis. Beneficiaries include the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Mass General Cancer Center at Cooley Dickinson Hospital, Cancer House of Hope, Cancer Connection, and Camp Rising Sun, ensuring that every dollar raised has a tangible impact in the region.

The ride is more than just a cycling event—it’s a movement. Riders come from across New England and beyond, many pedaling in honor of loved ones affected by cancer.

Organizers Meghan and Johnny Morin, who started Bikes Fight Cancer with just three friends in 2006, have watched the event grow into a powerhouse of fundraising and community spirit. After raising over $170,000 in 2024, they’re aiming even higher this year, with a $200,000 goal in sight.

Sold Out—But You Can Still Make a Difference

Although registration for the 2025 ride is officially sold out, there are still vital ways to get involved:

  • Volunteer: The event is volunteer-run, and extra hands are always needed—from greeters and parking attendants to road support and water stop helpers. Volunteering is a fantastic way to experience the energy of the day and support the riders and families at the heart of the cause.

  • Donate: Every dollar donated goes directly to cancer research and patient support. You can donate to a specific rider or team, or make a general contribution to the event’s fundraising efforts.

  • Join the Waitlist: If you’re hoping to ride, you can still sign up for the waitlist in case spots open up before the event.
